How does the thickness of the cane tube affect reed outcome?

The smaller the diameter, the bigger the opening. While this is true to some degree, I believe the gouge can determine the feel of the opening of a reed more than the actual diameter, but yes, it does have some effect.

Hi Cooper,

I am referring to the thickness of the wall of the cane tube rather than the diameter of the tube.

I noticed that some pieces of tube cane ...have walls which are thicker while others are thinner. After gouging it doesn't make a difference; though, I wonder if there is a difference in the characteristics of the cane itself.

Are you speaking of the outer dermis of the cane? Like the hard shiny layer of cane?
