 Soft water affecting reeds?

Has anyone had issues using softened water to soak reeds during making and playing? I have a water softener in my house and I'm trying to pin down whether it's causing some of my reed-making problems. I know soft water affects cooking pasta or rice (amount of time it takes to cook) so I'm thinking it does have somewhat of an effect on the cane.
