Mark's suggestion is excellent.
Ideally, I would buy a large magnifying glass on an articulated arm with built-in lighting, as used by jewlers and people who solder integrated circuits.
Far cheaper (and what I use) is a pair of reading glasses from my local pharmacy. I keep a pair in my tote-bag as well.
