When playing with piano (or any other instrument with more-or-less fixed pitch, such as organ, marimba, etc.), we must adopt an equal temperament. Electronic tuners are all set up for equal temperament as a default. However, "Just" intonation is required when playing with other wind/brass/string instruments. As mentioned above, the third of a major triad is very easy to hear as "out" when played according to your tuner's recommendation. If you bring it down far enough to sound consonant (as it should), your tuner will tell you you're 14-16 cents flat. Just about every harmonic interval, in any key, needs "tweaking" up or down in order to obtain a real consonant or dissonant quality. You must change these adjustments, for any particular pitch, based on new modes and Tonics. Play in a good ensemble for long enough, and it all becomes pretty second-nature. This is why it is important, as oboists, to have a flexible enough reed!
