Thanks for the info Craig, once again, you provide lots of meditative material!
As for OCD, I don't know... for me, Telemann is just enjoyable. These duets are more technically involving than the sonata in a-, but the duets seem to dictate how they want to be played whereas the sonata is just a blossom of possibilities.
As for the acoustics: yes, I'm seeking to reproduce the front-row-center fell AND get the sound I think is really coming out of my instrument. So far, I've had to compromise between a "living" sound (i.e. natural reverberation) and trueness of tone (i.e. as I hear it). This is difficult and it seems people with handy-cams get the best results. My microphone set is directional with a selective angle of 90 or 120 degrees: huge difference in sound quality.
For microphone (and computer) gain and amplification on playback: I have to keep the gain really low on the computer AND the microphone, otherwise it blows the speakers with fuzz! It's worse when I plug the recording device as a USB-mic input directly to the software. On top of picking-up bio-noise (!), more gain seems to make the sound more brilliant (whereas I prefer velvety).
When I do the duets, I think I'll reproduce the same layout illustrated on my blog, but with the microphone on a tripod instead of on the table (very surprised how the table-top messed-up my dynamics and sound).
