 Recording surprize!

In a previous post, we discussed how room acoustics and how the position of the microphone can wreck the oboe sound. I had always struggled because what I hear when playing is much better than what comes out of the recording device.

SURPRIZE:
Yesterday I had the exact opposite effect. My blog gives sound clips and detailed explanations. The clips sound so different you'd think I had jimmied the recordings with software effects.... nope, scout's honour (yes, I'm a former leader). But I did have to struggle to position the microphone to reproduce what I perceived as a horrible sound.... I really wanted to trash that reed, but it plays so well!

How do you reconcile horrible sound with great performance?

I think there might be an invisible split in it, because no matter what I do scraping wise, the buzz remains.
