I find if I am not playing as regularly as normal (i.e. missed a few rehearsals and not practising as much) I start feeling twinges in my right hand, which do go away with regular use. I do play clarinet with a neck strap if I'm playing for a long time (which these days doesn't happen much!), but I don't seem to get the same benefit from using a neck strap on oboe due to the angle.
At any rate, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any strengthening exercises for the right hand, perhaps involving stress balls/therabands? Since it seems to not be RSI but more a case of needing to keep the muscles strong, if I can do this when I'm not playing I'm sure it would help.
Thanks!
Rachel
