"LaMarque" - a "stencil" mark only. "LaMarque" was a marketing company name only. The "LaMarque" oboes that bear a stamp: "MADE IN FRANCE" on the backside of the bell ( at the top, just below the silver tenon band, in tiny letters, in the shape of an arch) will be by Malerne. Malerne made mostly DREADFUL oboes, though the Malerne English horns ( many Malerne English horns were sold as a myriad of different "stencil" brands) can be at times outstanding, excellent.
La Marque may have used other French makers also.
LaMarque/Malerne oboes were absolutely nothing to write home about with respect to playing characteristics, and the key-work is ill designed, poorly executed, and extremely "clunky."
The "Made in Italy" "La Marque" oboes- most likely made by Santoni, Orsi.
Not anything to write home about either. Once in blue moon (or so) I may come across a LaMarque oboe (French or Italian) with full professional key-work that actually plays well. Such an oboe (IF you could find one) would be (in my estimation) an improvement over any of the Selmer, Buffet, Yamaha
"intermediate" model oboes. However, overall, BEST TO AVOID anything that
is stamped "LaMarque," no matter how attractive the price may be...
With best wishes,
Peter
