Here's an interesting adjustment tale.

After having my oboe tuned to lower the F# pitch - I noticed the Octave E was stuffy and not speaking properly.

Having ruled out the tuning as a cause ..... My teacher and I adjusted with cigarette paper the the screws that regulate the E keys mechanisms. We had very little improvement.

Well, I contacted my repair person Kirsten Bertrand who did the tuning. She advised me to turn the bell so the Bb resonant key mechanism would not work and the problem disappeared.

The pad on the Bb resonant did not sit and seal. After I adjusted the screw mechanism and the key sealed properly - I no longer had any E problems!

So the resonant keys have a direct impact upon the Octave E functions.
