The problem of slipping and the extension of the seating area can be solved by using a thin sheet of lucite or pegboard. Cut to about 0 inches wide by12" long , rounding off forward corners so don't poke into your thighs.
Then I covered the center four inches or so with a non-slip surface. I used a piece of pegboard type material and glued on a strip of the rubberized material used under throw rugs to prevent slippage. Most carpet supply stores can sell you a little.
It keeps the Phred from sliding on slippery chair surface and is thin, lightweight and fits right in my music folder. Just pull it out and sit on it, and you're ready to attach your Phred and play with freedom of body motion, at any angle you like to hold your oboe or EH and weight problem of the instrument solved.
