Drilling screw holes into the joint isn't a problem provided they have a drill with a depth stop so no more than a depth of 5mm is drilled into the joint (although you can drill deeper, 5mm is deep enough for wood screws). They may or may not need to fill in the redundant holes, but it's better if they do.
