 Tube cane storage

Just out of curiosity, how do you store your tube canes for a long period of time?

Do you split it or just leave it in the tube form?

Is there anything to take note for the storage location, besides the obvious moisture/mold issue?

I currently just put them in a box into my cupboard, where it's relatively dry. No problem so far but I'm just wondering if there is any other better or recommended way to do so.

I just leave my tube cane in a bag - box - jar - whatever; I haven't noticed any changes in the cane. I had a large quantity of cane I used over ten years stored in a cardboard box in the closet. Dry in the winter - more humid the summer. The cane was fine and aged well and was quite consistent.

The best is paper bags and or cardboard boxes so the cane won't get moldy (the paper will breathe)

I have cane since 1994 and it seems that age is really good for it.mjfoboe wrote:

Ziplock bags.... or airtight plastic containers.

Each identifying cane source, date of purchase, in some cases can dimensions, ala 10.0 - 10.5 mm diameter.

There was a time when little bugs... bores of some sort were eating holes in the cane.

It is important to protect against that little pest.

Have not seen it for a long while, but I did see it and it ruined a couple pounds of cane... well bad cane, but all cane is bad until you've had it a decade or two.

Dan Ross recommends cardboard boxes; the cane is organic & should be allowed to "breathe" Plastic bags prevent this air flow.

Best,
