retired reedmakers :-)
Nearly all of my cane for the last two years has come from other oboists who have decided they will never make reeds again! It doesn't matter if it is already shaped, since my shape is a tiny bit narrower. I can always shave that little bit extra off the sides.

Howard,
Buy small amounts of cane from various suppliers. Be sure to buy different brands too. Then narrow down what you want from the cane and whether the cane meets your expectations.
I always makes four reeds from for different batches. I used different color thread to identify each batch.
I then can see which cane makes the best reeds and why.
You can then purchase that cane(s).
Mark
I use Ghys, Danzi, RDG, and Rigotti at the moment. The RDG and Rigotti (at least this lot) have made better reeds than the Danzi and Ghys. The cane is harder in relation to the other batches. Right now it is fall - so maybe the other cane will perform better in the summer.......................
The more cane the merrier ................................ it is a constant struggle - and you must keep on trying different batches and growers.

Well, I'm satisfied with the cane I have now. I got it by recommendation of F.Leleux . It's rather hard and resistant.
Nevertheless, in any cane there is some percentage of good tubes. Good cane is 8/10 tubes, bad cane- 3/20 )))

It just came from Rigotti as it is. When you try le rousseau chantant, tell us about the results! :-)
