I am an adult amateur, and I have had good luck with the following reedmakers. You'll need to order and try them out, because some are brighter, some are darker.

Goodtoneguild
Nielsen Woodwinds (they will ship them to you VERY fast, I highly recommend their student and beginner reeds, also the Blue Thread)
Fox reeds if you can find them
Singing Dog
Reedery
Forrests
Lisa Hudson
Stuart Dunkel
Cooper Wright
Tabbytoes (awesome reeds)

Be forewarned that none of these come cheap; figure on spending $16 to $22 per reed, not including shipping. Also, some of them have 6 to 8 week waiting periods. Forrests, Fox, and Nielsens are the fastest shipping.

You may order from any and all of these folks with a credit card online with perfect confidence; I have been buying reeds from them myself for years with no problems.
