This is gross...but...you can try your own spit. That's pretty cheap. I've actually used it when I was running late or whatever, and it works like a charm.

I used to work in a repair shop and it was well known that an overuse of cork grease causes the cork to break down more readily. Use cork grease sparingly. I have a pot of Loree cork grease that has hardly been used since I bought my horn in 1997. (It's purple and smells like grapes, by the way.)
