 'grading' density of cane
Author: GoodWinds 2017

Greetings pro-reeders:

I get confused ordering cane. I find charts on various suppliers, describing cane shape and also density, but I can't make much sense of them (it doesn't help that I have some brain damage due to an illness, and can't make sense of many things, but I try).

Could anyone out there give me their OPINION of various kinds of cane, i.e. Grimaud vs. Rhys vs. Glotin vs RDG vs....

I keep coming back to Glotin, but I know it is because I feel familiar with it. I like a slightly denser cane that lasts longer, but I've had success with softer grades too. (One of my mentors grows and/or harvests his own.)

I know that the gouge makes a difference too. Someone please point me in the right direction as to where I can order consistently good products. I do not intend to become a gouger myself (don't talk me into it, I've not the $$ for equipment nor the technical interest or time), so any suggestions are WELCOME.

thanks!!
