Hi all,
I'm in the Washington, DC area and am looking into having my C-series Loree overhauled, including full keywork replating. There is a local oboe repair shop in Alexandria, VA called "alberto grossi woodwinds" (www.agwoodwinds.com). Has anyone heard of this place? Do they do good work? They quoted me $900 for the overhaul and full replate, with a maximum turnaround of 3 months.
I'd greatly appreciate any help since this is my first time getting major work done on my C-series.
Thanks,
Justin H.

I would contact Alvin Swiney directly who is also in VA (Richmond). Even my mentor, David Weber, admits that when it comes to acoustics of early Lorees, nobody knows more than Alvin Swiney. I personally have had a bunch of work done by him, and am very happy with his work.

You might want to contact Margaret Noble at OboeWorks for a reference about this shop. Margaret had the "go-to" oboe shop in Alexandria for many years, before she relocated to NYC.

Yes. They made small repairs to my daughter's oboe (Fossati) and English horn (old Loree). They did an excellent job and the turnaround time was great. I was able to pick up the instruments the same day I dropped them off. They specialize in only a few instruments--oboe, flute--not sure if they repair anything else. I am scheduled to have my old Muramatsu flute overhauled by them in September. I've been quoted a similar price to yours.

I trust Cooper's referrals. They have been reliable. But of course, it is your choice in the end of who you use.
