Check the WW&BW catalog for ready made reeds. I've played the oboe for a long time and have not found a satisfactory reed to purchase. I've made thousands of them and must work on them every week. The Dunkle reeds seem better than many, however. The most important factor in reeds is the stability of the reed as it is crowed before it is even put on the oboe. Without a stable reed, it is next to impossible to play in tune.

An oboe beginner with a teacher will generally buy reeds made by his teacher. Although one can make sounds on the oboe without a teacher, it is generally not possible to play the oboe well without a good teacher.
