Thanks for the comforting words Richard. I think you've hit the nail on the head there with the disparity between how well I do at things I've done for years and years and this new experience I'm having with the oboe.
Thankfully I'm already experiencing the occasional eureka moment; the first time I played 2 octaves of C major at a decent tempo without stumbling had me all afluster! A small victory to be sure but the taste of it is what's driving me on.
I'm actually beginning to feel that the journey to proficiency is going to be as much fun as reaching an acceptable standard. Which of course, I never will since each time I reach a goal I almost always push the target up straight away.
I'm just going to have to put in more work with the reading.
