good point, as the very resonant room where I make my reeds differs so markedly from the orchestra practice room or the concert hall.

I would say it's REALLY good to have another someone 'critique' the sound. My second oboe and I actually have 'reed parties' which sounds very obsessive-compulsive but is really a pleasant, casual way to address where we're stuck -- or not.
