Well in the end i bought a Yamaha 431. The retail price is about the same as the howarth but i managed to get 1.5K of the price due to a mix up with the sale labels.
I decided it was better to get a more intermediate level instrument that feels good to me. To my ears it sounds really nice i doubt i would have noticed any difference (i'm practically deaf) had i found a howarth to try and effectively would have just been paying the extra for the name. Now i have extra cash left to hire a good tutor which is always a bonus.
Im sure Howarth's are good instruments but i think they are probably too good for the level im ever likely to attain.
Feels good to have a proper wooden oboe again, just wish my lips would get some strength back in them so i can finish a tune.
Thanks for the advice.
