Interesting comment. But what are the standards for a "German" or "American" sound? Koch, Schilli and Goritzki play(ed) Marigaux oboes (the most popular among German oboists) and German scrape reeds, whereas most Americans perform on Lorees with American scrape reeds. Alan Vogel and Peter Cooper play Marigaux instruments with American scrapes. Would Albrecht Mayer constitute a prototypical German sound?
