 concepts - air

i think in years of oboe playing , there must be some concepts in which you apply to your stuents or yourself which gets ever better with correct use, no matter self discovered or previously thought.

i myself was thought to think of pulling the air out of the instrument through the bell. i also read years ago of maurice bourge's writing, stating that air is more important than any other thing AT FIRST consideration, and that incorrect use of air means impossible adjustment of embouchure and posture so forth.

any concepts anyone here would like to share?
