I've seen Chedeville oboe mouthpieces listed on you-know-where and they don't half fetch mega money!
I made an ebonite oboe mouthpiece years ago out of narrow diameter ebonite rod mounted on a shortened oboe staple, tied a sliced-up clarinet reed to it and it sounded alright - much thicker tone quality than a normal oboe reed, but it was a real embouchure wrecker. Uncomfortable to play with a double lip embouchure and awkward to play with a clarinet-type embouchure (teeth on top) even though the beak was made as thin as was possible, so it was like nothing else.
