 sound again.....

I'm still listening to various oboe players trying to identify the sound I would aspire to had I the technique to do so.

I found this url:

http://www.oboistgallery.8m.net/

and listened a bunch of the clips there. Without exception I like best the sound of the people identified as German, and also some other Europeans. So is this sound a scrape thing? I've read somewhere that Germans use harder reads and bite more, while Americans use softer reeds and bite less.

Maybe later I will change my mind about what sound I like best, but my question remains as to how "that" kind of apparently German sound that I heard from so many on the European section, is attained; is is scrape? Use of embouchure differently? Different instrument? Would this sound be described as more "reedy" than, for example the sound I hear if I click on the Elaine Douvas clip? (which I would describe as "dark" based on how I describe horn sounds.)
