If you have water trouble while playing you will just have to stop playing to sort it out. It's an unfortunate thing to happen and it will inevitably happen, and we have to be prepared for it and take the steps to rectify the situation so when it comes to an exposed solo, we're not falling foul of condensation blocking up toneholes.

It happened to me on clarinet only this evening when my speaker bush got waterlogged preventing everything from throat Bb upwards working. Fortunately it was at the beginning of the 2nd mvmt. of Holst's Suite in Eb and the oboes and cornets were in unison with me, so I could stop to sort it out without being missed.

I must admit that I got caught out today by this as it's reasonably warm but humid (70% humidity as it's been raining and we were in a Naval base) but there was a draught in the rehearsal room as the cornet players had the windows open which kept the temperature of our instruments on the cool side - even though I wasn't by an open window, there was a breeze coming off the wall nearest me (sat on the opposite side of the room to the cornets).

But we should also take preventative measures to save any gurgles or embarrassement. Whenever possible (in between pieces, movements and long rests) we should do what we can to remove as much condensation, such as keeping a pullthrough to hand (I hang mine from one of the wingnuts on my music stand) and using it to dry the top joint or whole instrument out with, as well as giving the top joint a good shake, blow down the joint, etc. to remove condensation before it becomes a problem.
