They will sound like a student model oboe, and definitely nothing like a kazoo.
I think they're designed to be playable for children as young as 7 or 8 as there are already flutes, clarinets and small bassoons designed for younger beginners (under the age of 10).
It puts woodwinds on par with stringed instruments, so maybe we'll have more prodigies playing woodwinds rather than the usual violin or piano prodigies.
