Good point. My own experience as a clarinet player and late-starter (would be) oboist is that if the mouthpieces were the same, the oboe would be far easier to play. The fingering is much easier to learn and more instinctive. The keys lie so much more comfortably under the fingers and respond so much better. Compared to the clarinet, playing scales on the oboe is a joy!
It all comes down to that horrible little wooden thing we have to shove between our lips and try to control!
