I also have her reed-making book - a paperback, published by Nova Music in association with TW Howarth (original 1987 edition). On page 25 in the section The lay you are about to learn, she says:
"The basic lay to be described is a very modified version of what might be called the American scrape." , and the footnote explains how different this is from the classic French scrape. The lay she describes looks far more like a modern American scrape than a classic French one.
That said, it could be that she describes this lay but in fact used a different one, or even bought her reeds from a supplier. Michael Winfield (a famous UK Oboist, professor of Oboe at the Royal College) posed for the photos in the book, and he definitely used French scrape :-). Nick Winfield's father, I believe.
