hi,

I've not posted on here before but this board seems so well informed I thought I would!

I'm buying an oboe around october, once I've started music college and am wondering if anyone could tell me the advantages and disadvantages between normal african blackwood, grenadilla, cocobolo, violetwood and snakewood.

I'm aware the cocobolo is slightly prone to cracking whereas violetwood is less so. I know nothing about snakewood or grenadilla and all I know of blackwood is that my old oboe was made of it and cracked over a dozen times!

Anyways, any responses would be appreciated :o)

Thanks,

L
