The thickness of the spine is probably making the reed more open. Try overlapping the blades more, which will raise the pitch because you have an effectively narrower reed (at least the vibrating part). Or you could try a narrower shape. Or you could try a shorter staple. (Experiment by taking a reed which is flat and filing a mm off of the base of the staple.) Alternatively, moderate your spine thickness a little and see if you still are pleased with your reeds.
