Todd's suggestion to read (or better sing) the words is excellent. I've sung this many times (about every other Christmas) as our church choir director likes it quite a bit. It is one of the quieter carols. (Not everything can or should be "Joy to the World.") I suggest a smooth though not legato approach being careful to carry through each phrase just as a singer would.
