 Corigliano Clarinet Concerto
Author: Jack Kissinger

There is currently an auction on eBay for the Corigliano Clarinet Concerto with a picture of part of the first page of the clarinet part.

The part calls for Clarinet in C but the first note of the first cadenza is d3 and there is also an eb3. What clarinet(s) do performers actually use in this concerto? Just curious.

Best regards,
jnk

Jack...What you are seeing is the opening clarinet cadenza on the first page of the piano reduction.

The work is for clarinet in Bb, and there should be a separate enclosed part. Thus, the opening note for clarinet is a written E3...GBK

Aha. That explains it. I knew that the opening cadenza was without accompaniment. What threw me was the apparent size of the print. It looked normal to me so I assumed I was seeing the first page of the clarinet part rather than the piano reduction. Thanks for the clarification, GBK.

Best regards,
jnk
