Hey guys,
I will be performing Respighi's Huntingtower - Ballade for Band, supposedly his only piece for a wind ensemble. Does anybody have any knowledge about the background or 'inspiration' to this piece? I have only read it twice, but it sounds wonderful so far.

Kai...The "Huntingtower Ballad" was written in 1932, four years before Respighi died. It was written specifically for the 1932 convention of the ABA (American Bandmaster's Association) upon the suggestion of Edwin Franko Goldman.
The inspiration of the piece was a small area in Scotland called Huntingtower...GBK

GBK - I dont disagree with Scotland as "inspiration", but cant find mention of Hunting/Tower in my "World Atlas" [Sc, GB, Ire] , but being into my Scot ancestry-searching [and increasing it!], will look into other info soon. Having seen "Braveheart", " Rob Roy" et al, shows haw meat was put on the table in the past!! Don

Don...I should have been clearer, sorry.
Huntingtower is a castle in Scotland. Respighi took lodging nearby -thus the inspiration by Huntingtower (Castle)...GBK
