What is recommended to polish up the nickel around the bottom of my R13 bell..and several keys? Do not want to corrode accidently!!

I'm not an expert, but my local Pecknel Music sells special polishing cloths from Selmer. Some are for silverplate and others are for nickleplate. I have used them pretty successfully.

There were many posts here in the somewhat distant past, Linda, about those bell rings. Seems they're some kinda different metal which is quite prone to tarnishing. I really don't know any more than that about (R13) bell rings or what you can do about it. Nickel keys do very well with any plain ol' soft cloth, I've found that old gym socks (the soft toe part) are pretty good or, as Bob suggests, (and some of my friends like) Selmer nickelplate cloths. The idea is to routinely wipe the keys after you've finished for the day. Don't allow tarnish to accumulate too much 'cause then it's a real chore to get it off.

Would not polish actually remove part of the plating (granted a thin layer) so in theory you could polish the plating off a key?

It's my understanding, Roger, that any abrasive or chemical polish will remove surface metal along with rust, tarnish etc., very small amounts for sure, but over time it becomes quite noticeable. We probably all, or at least most of us, have seen plating wear on older horns. Wear is caused by rubbing (friction) or chemistry (being touched)... I guess :|

The old thread wondered if the bell rings were actually plated at all on many instruments. If it uis raw cupronickel it will tarnish quickly from bright, just like a 'silver' coin, and then change little. Why fight it if this is the case.
