I've tried and like Selmer's Clarinet reeds, and now I'm looking to try their bass clarinet reeds. The soprano clarinet reeds are readily available, but I can't find a single US retailer that carries the bass clarinet reeds, and no international store that carries them will ship them to the US. Has anyone been able to try them? Where'd you get them and what did you think of them?

Just use tenor sax ones instead.

Unfortunately they won't ship to the US, but thank you anyway. I think they may just take some time to come to market here, so some patience is in order from me.

I'd ask Mark Lowenstern (earspasm) when he thinks they'll come in. He carries the Selmer soprano reeds (maybe the first in the US to carry them?), and obviously is quite focused on the bass clarinet.

GoldhawkRoad, what's your experience about the Selmer reed strength's? According to the Selmer chart they match the Vandoren Traditionals, but Earspasm rates them as a half grade stronger - e.g. a Selmer 2.5 = Traditional 3.0
Anyone else with experience, maybe also about the Selmer bass reeds (which I'm primarily interested about)?

Did you find any or did you do what any normal person would do and just use the vast array of tenor sax reeds that are readily available?

I've been using them on Bb, and I think Earspasm is about spot on. I've been using a selmer Focus mouthpiece. I settled on vandoren traditional 3s for that mouthpiece. When I tried a bunch of selmer reeds, I settled on 2.5 or 2.75. A 3 traditional is maybe between the two, or maybe 2.5s are more like soft vandoren 3s, etc... Ended up trying the selmer tenor sax reeds, and it was about the same experience strength wise.
On a side note the selmer focus takes surprisingly low number reeds for a supposedly closed mouthpiece. Anyone else have that experience?

Haha, I did end up trying the selmer tenor reeds. They were about what I'm looking for, but still curious to try the bass reeds just to see the difference. Hopefully it won't be too long until they're available.
