I felt comfortable buying a new Yamaha A-clarinet online from Europe, because Yamaha's are very consistent from one to another. I also know of several others who have had good experiences doing the same. However, Buffet's tend to be more variable, so I would hesitate to order one without trial. However, some places, such as Dawkes (U.K.), have quite flexible return policies, so it might be worth the savings.
Another option is to contact Lohff and Pfeiffer to see if they have, or can get, a suitable used A-clarinet. If they sell you one, you can be sure it is good. They service clarinets for many European artists, and customers often trade in their old horns when they purchase new ones.
