I acquired a Ralph Morgan 06 and 10 mouthpieces made in 1986. Were these made before or after he designed mouthpieces for Selmer. Were they based upon the Selmer designs or vice versa (or not at all). He sent a letter with the mouthpieces suggesting the use of softer reeds and more mouthpiece in the mouth.

ralph made execellent copies of existing mpcs usually. about this time. the morgan i have is a copy of a lelangus duck bill clarinet mpc. its darn near as good as the original. ralph desighned the bundy 2 saxophone for selmer -i wasnt aware he did any mpc desighn for them

Ralph retired from The Selmer Co. around 1980. He was chief woodwind designer at the time. Shortly after that he started producing his own mouthpieces.
I do not know how much involvement, if any, he had in producing Selmer branded mouthpieces before 1980. I suspect if he did, it might only be USA manufactured mouthpieces. I think there is a decent Wiki page outlining Selmer USA and Selmer Paris history, how the two companies are related, and the various changes in ownership.
Ralph was a most kind gentleman, always willing to share his extensive knowledge with anyone looking for help. I own an 06, two 10s, and a 28 for clarinet; a D for bass clarinet; and a Excalibur 6 alto sax. I find them all to be excellent.
