Can anyone recommend a restorer for German system clarinet in Europe

I have an old (1960s) Adler clarinet. It is playable and in many ways it's a nice instrument, but it really needs a complete overhaul. I have found several companies offering such a service via an internet search. Prices vary quite a lot. I know absolutely nothing about any of them, so any choice would be a pure gamble. I live in Ireland and as far as I know there is no suitable restorer here that I might be able to take it to and have a chat about it, so I would have to post it and hope for the best. Posting is fine, but I really need to use someone based in the EU to avoid customs problems. Given that it's a German system instrument, a suitable tech is likely to be based in Germany or Austria anyway.

Has anyone used an EU-based tech that they can recommend?

I've never had this done before on any instrument. How much (very roughly, I know there could be problems that only turn up once the instrument has been checked) could I expect to pay for a full restoration?

Hi,
Here are some woodwindmaker who restore clarinets, too

Wolfgang Dietz, Leitner und Kraus, Meinel, Martin Foag, Schwenk und Seggelke .. .there are a lot.
Dietz, Leitner und Kraus and Schwenk und Seggelke are located in Bavaria. Foag in the south of Bavaria. They produce fantastic clarinets, also Böhm and Reform- Böhm.

If you want to go only
to a repair shop you can send the clarinets to Die Holzbläser or Mike Duchstein in Berlin. In every big town is a repair shop. All can do this repair.
I would call them and send a foto, so that they can tell you want to do.

I restore some years ago my clarinet for 800 Euro.
Greatings from Germany and good luck!

You can write me a Mail if you want more information

Hi kerryklari,
I used David Grant, now in Dublin, for some heavy duty keywork alterations a few years ago and was very impressed with the quality of his work. He might be worth talking to anyway.

You can shoot an e-mail to Chris P. who participates in this forum.
He is very knowledgeable and should be able to restore/overhaul your instrument as well as any other "big" name shops.

However, I would get an idea how much your clarinet is worth and if it makes sense to fix it because the repair can be more money than what it is worth.

***I have NO affiliation with Chris and have never met him.

jd has listed a ton amazing recommendations here, though I'd also like to recommend Boris Schönherr in Berlin to your shortlist. He does extensive services and even keywork customizations on flutes & clarinets, and I've dealt with him when I was thinking of selling my German system bass back to Germany through him some years ago he was very cordial in his communication and even suggested me not to sell it through him as he won't be able to sell it at a high price for me. I subsequently sold it through Mike Duchstein, though I'd be glad to have Boris service my instruments one day!
