I have an old (1960s) Adler clarinet. It is playable and in many ways it's a nice instrument, but it really needs a complete overhaul. I have found several companies offering such a service via an internet search. Prices vary quite a lot. I know absolutely nothing about any of them, so any choice would be a pure gamble. I live in Ireland and as far as I know there is no suitable restorer here that I might be able to take it to and have a chat about it, so I would have to post it and hope for the best. Posting is fine, but I really need to use someone based in the EU to avoid customs problems. Given that it's a German system instrument, a suitable tech is likely to be based in Germany or Austria anyway.
Has anyone used an EU-based tech that they can recommend?
I've never had this done before on any instrument. How much (very roughly, I know there could be problems that only turn up once the instrument has been checked) could I expect to pay for a full restoration?
