i have to go back to cane for the first time in 20 years because legere nor anyone else makes an altoclarinet synth reed. the legere alto sax reed is too wide and the edge cuts into my bottom lip. i cant make it tru a 1.5 hr rehearsal. plasticovers may work and i will give them a try next . i bought some cheap orange box ricos for alto clar and they are quite comfortable to play . may just have to go with these

super20dan,
Perhaps your mouthpiece's window is narrower than that of other alto clarinet mouthpieces.
For basset horn I use an alto clarinet mouthpiece with Legere reeds. On both my 5RV and B40 alto clarinet mouthpieces, two types of Legere alto sax reeds (original and Signature) are actually a fraction of a mm *narrower* than the mouthpiece window.
Some alto clarinet mouthpiece windows (like those on Vandoren mpcs) are quite a bit wider than others. Legere alto sax reeds will come closer to fitting those wider windows.

yes the window on my stock noblet mpc is quite a bit more narrow than most. i continue to use it only because its a really good mpc. i was suprised -didnt expect it to be any good . i will try the vandoren next as i have a b44 that i bought for my bundy alto clair a long time ago. i bought a legere american cut reed and thats the one that bothers me. i do have an original version i also will try and see if it fits better.
