 Gigliotti #3?

A soprano I've performed with contacted me to ask me to check the condition of a clarinet that she used to play but had put away 20 years ago when she began to study voice seriously. Her mouthpiece was a Gigliotti that I am fairly sure had the number 3 down next to the bottom of the table. It was, she thinks, probably from the 1980s.

(1) Did Gigliottis come with facings higher than #2? I had never until today seen one.

(2) Does anyone know what the nominal facing measurements were? I was surprised to find that this one seemed to have the same tip opening as my P facings. It was a 17 mm curve. It was the standard P34 facing.

Was there a #3 or could this have been a case of everything having worn away from the facing ID of a P34 except the 3?

The 3s I've had/measured were in the...
1.09mm 34 23 12 6 ballpark, but I'm SURE they varied...

Yes, another BBoard member has sent me some information and a comparative chart from Chedeville showing the same measurements, which match up with what I would have expected. The original (I actually have a prototype he gave me to try that pre-dates the first commercial release) was eventually labeled #2 and was slightly more open - maybe 1.00 or 1.01 mm - than what eventually became the P and then the P34, which are nominally, I think, meant to be about 0.99 mm. The #2 was opened a little more, apparently to 1.05, once the P34 was introduced (the P34 was sold as Gigliotti's "Personal" facing - the P - but with a more conventional 17 mm curve length (34 on Eric Brand's gauge, which measures in half-millimeters).

Thanks!
Karl
