 Cavallini 30 Caprices

I have an old Carl Fischer edition (with a green cover) that seems to have the Caprices in a completely different order than all the recordings posted on YouTube. For example, what all the players perform as #1 is the eighth study in my book, and is marked "Op. 2, No. 2").
Does anyone know what the story is behind this? I guess my best solution is to get a newer addition of the Caprices!

The first Caprice in the Ricordi edition (thought of as the gold standard back in the 70s) is the A minor as played on YouTube by Nicola Bulfone.

I don't know what the story is but I do know I've run into exercises in different order from one publisher to another. Not sure if that has to do with licensing or just making it look different to a paying public.

Paul,
I have corrected my listing. No. 1, the A minor, is Op. 2, No.2, the eighth study in the edition I have.
I have corrected the original post.
Thanks.

hmmmm..........

Just to be clear, the Ricordi edition does NOT identify opus numbers. It only provides the Italian word(s) that indicates (quite roughly) the intended speed. Then you have the key of course.

Ricordo no. 2 is "Allegro brillante" in the key of "C." Running triplet exercise no. 2 as played by Mark Walton on YouTube.

This is sort of thing can be more than just a little annoying. When Alabama switched back to using Rose etudes for their All-State auditions, they listed only the exercise number which did NOT correlate (in several circumstances) with the International Music editions that I believe are the most prevalent.

bother
