Anthony McGill--Mostly Mozart Across the Boroughs

Clarinetists looking for a challenging acoustical environment to play in cannot do better than an open park without the aid of bandshell acoustics. That's what Anthony McGill does--with fine acoustical presence and musicality--here in the Bronx, near his old home. Selections from J.S. Bach (and a new piece) in the park in "Mostly Mozart Across the Boroughs." Anybody know what mouthpiece he's using (is it one of the new line Puccini Tosca Kuckmeiers?)

Great outreach and use of Covid time by McGill (and a member of ABT?).

Of course what WE hear in the recording is processed sound with lots of juicy reverb added. What we didn't see (though we saw the spaced pair of mics replete with "dead cats") was the PA system used (and I assume the "effects" were added there as well......but the audio recorded is direct through the equipment).

You can add tails to your sound in the middle of a park but it will never sound like that......unaided.

The clarinet is an RC Prestige.

And the mouthpiece, a Playnick Puccini Tosca.

Really fun video.

Thanks for sharing it!

I was happily surprised to see him using a neck strap. I use one and I try to get my students who have issues with their right hand to use one.

Cheers,
Robert
