 Very sad news
Author: donald

My wife and I got very sad news today that Nathan Beaty had passed away. Well known to many on this forum, he was a dedicated mouthpiece craftsman. He was also a very fine player who worked to play with thoughtful and creative interpretation in addition to his technical prowess and fine tone quality.
A really genuine and lovely man, it's a great shame that he has been taken from us.

Sorry to hear this. Nathan was always fun to talk to and did good work on several of my mouthpieces. He was honest about what he could and could not do and would follow any opportunity to increase his knowledge. He was an admirable person, and I will miss him.

Nathan was a good friend, a wonderful mouthpiecer, and a man of great integrity. I will cherish my memories of my good friend.

Very sorry to hear this. He made some really good contributions to this board. I had contact with him some time back and it was a pleasure talking and working with him.

Shocked to hear of this. I was of the impression he was a fairly young man.

When I heard the news of Nathan's passing, I had no idea of just how much he meant to me because I just starting crying and sobbed for a short while. My wife came over to me and asked me what was wrong. I then told her: "I just found out that I lost a good friend". Nathan and I exchanged emails just a few weeks ago. Yes, he was a fairly young man working towards his Doctorate in Clarinet Performance. My eldest brother died when he was just 31 (46 yrs ago) and he had just received his Doctorate in E.E., so maybe that had something to do with my reaction. I knew that Nathan had some serious medical problems (as did my brother) but I had no idea that they could cause an early death.

I will most certainly miss him for his kindness towards me and his patience in explaining mouthpiece concepts to me. He was a true gentleman.

May he rest in peace.

This type of news puts things in perspective.

Nathan was a gentle, buoyant soul.
He had an old-world civility, restraint and courtesy worthy of his southern roots.

A touching obituary can be read here:
