 Weaving your own ligature?
Author: crusius

Hi all,

I always wondered whether weaving something like a Vandoren Klassik by hand wouldn't be a rather easy DIY clarinet project, but could not find any instructions anywhere. The best I could find was this:

I guess one could reverse-engineer the instructions by watching the video enough times, but it doesn't hurt asking: does anybody know of step-by-step instructions to weaving a Klassik-like ligature?

You could also research Vientos Bambu Ligature. Maybe that Argentian dude will share his pattern.

A few years back, I posted my homemade hand-woven ligature:

If you're interested, I can e-mail instructions.

Thanks Neil for the pointer - If I understand it correctly, that's a non-adjustable ligature (you can't tighten it by hand easily). I've found a few others like that in my search, but they wouldn't work for me. My suspicion is that the VD Klassik shouldn't be hard to make, if only there were proper instructions around... If I have the time someday I'll try to reverse engineer that video.

Thanks again!

Years go by a lot quicker these days than they used to.

try Velcro, no weaving, adjustable, and cheap. I described making them in CB some years ago.

I wanna know how these kinds of ligatures blow? I saw them in college and they caught on but I have Rovner on all my clarinets and saxophone. The Rovers give me the support and stability that I need.
