NEW Single Case For Full Boehm Bb!

I had an older R13 brought into me in a backpack-style case. I noticed a fairly large gap in the section that holds the lower joint and then the cogs started whirring. So I grabbed my full Boehm CT to check if the lower joint fits - and it does!

See attached photos.

The owner bought the case from Howarth a few months ago and I assume it's this one, but check with them to be certain:

Ortola also offer a rectangular zip-up case, but I'm not sure what the insides of that are like with regards to accommodating a full Boehm Bb lower joint - the top joints on full Boehms (and others with articulated C#/G#) are still the same length as a regular Bb, but have a much longer middle tenon as it's been cut back into the joint.

Are these cases made for Ortola by BAM of France?

I doubt they're made by Bam as the interior is polystyrene and not some kind of forgiving foam that Bam use. Plus they're under £100.

Ah, thanks. The images are a bit deceiving regarding the interior.

Chris, thanks for this, I was looking for a case for my Series 9 FB and I hadn't come across Ortola yet.

I checked the Ortola site, where I also found the model 186, which seems to be even more spacious. On one of the pictures the lengths of the various cut-outs are indicated, the 30cm is indeed a perfect fit for the lower body part of a FB.

Now if only there was a case out there that would accommodate my full Boehm A Clarinet

I don't know if Amati still make full Boehms or still offer single cases for them (Bb and A single cases). They're still listed on their site, but that doesn't mean much as they've discontinued several clarinets with extra keywork.

I bought a couple of their full Boehm Bb cases a few years back and they fit Selmer full Boehms perfectly, but the insides aren't of the best quality being vacuum formed plastic.

If you know of an Amati agent/distributor, check if the single case for their full Boehm A clarinet is still available - according to their site the recommended case for them is 2135K-A

Hi Chris. Yes, I went through that process some time back by sending an e-mail to the Amati dealer here in Australia but never got a reply back. You gave me the catalogue number then as well. I'll try again but will phone them up this time.

As you're most likely to need an A clarinet in conjunction with a Bb, your best bet is finding a Yamaha double case and adapting it to fit full Boehms.

It's much easier to adapt the A lower joint compartment and make it look good as the fabric lining hasn't been cut on that side, whereas on the Bb side they cut through the fabric where the one of the barrel holes is.
