 Trying to find a thread

Is anyone here good at searching in this forum and can try to find the thread about the Yamaha 221 being sharp? I don't remember who started it. I couldn't find it searching (unique threads only) for things like "clarnibass yamaha 442" and many other variations of words that I remember from it.

I'm specifically trying to find an old post where I had rough calculations of the tuning of the 221 Yamaha bass when the subject of it being tuned to 442 came up.

Any suggestions on how to better find old threads in this forum? I don't have the same issue on other forums.

Thanks

Is this it?

EDIT: It looks like there are quite a few threads where the sharpness of the 221 is discussed, here's a quote from one of the other threads: "I put 1.5mm tuning rings in my 221 II. Neck out 3/8. "

Fuzzy, how did you get there? I also have trouble finding threads being spoiled by Google's smart searches.

Hi,

I have been interested in this Yamaha 221 tuning problem and found this old thread using "Yamaha 221" followed by the search term hank. There were lots of threads but I believe this one might be the best.

Hi Ken,

Similar to Hank, I searched for "Yamaha 221 442" (but without quotes).

You can also select "Unique Threads Only", and select whether you want the results based on relevancy to the search terms, or based on oldest to newest, newest to oldest, etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. It was the second link, the one in Hank's post. If I search for "yamaha 221 hank" it does find it (a few below the top). It's still a matter of checking them all unless you recognize what it is from the title (more or less). If I search for "yamaha 221 clarnibass" it doesn't find it anywhere on the first page at least, and I posted in that thread too. Not sure why. I did use the "unique" feature in all searches. I didn't remember a name or username of anyone else who posted in it to use in the search.

Nitai,

I'm not a programmer but have some early experience using Fortran and Basic for research work. In those day, one had to use If-Then-Else statements and a lot of somewhat archaic but quaint search parameters that although primitive, sorted out and/or controlled many variables. I believe that now, I still use some of those techniques and have thus had success.

In the case of this BB, the search regimen may be rooted in earlier techniques. Perhaps the newer search engines have taken searching ability to newer, more sophisticated levels.

Maybe someone that has more IT experience can add to my musings above.

PS "When searching, you know it's there but to find it, you need to think like a computer" (Lehrer, 2018).
