You shared an accurate diagram on your website. I did a first attempt on widdling a reed because it sounded dull and unfocused, probably because it's a month old now. I did a stroke or two on each side past the heart, a stroke on the flat side of the back of the reed and flattened the back of the bark to prevent an air leak there.
It sounds like this reed will last at least a couple nore weeks. Thank you Ed for sharing good information with us.

Ed, would you accept this instead? I don't have any money, and if I did, I'd probably spent it on a golden bass clarinet and live in a cardboard box. After all, nothing's more important than clarinet-ing. Actually, a golden bass clarinet could buy me a new house and I could always save more money... nah I'd live in the cardboard box.

Thanks Sam but I prefere a bass clarinet made of wood. I own one already with the neck and bell plated with gold but not "made" of gold and my house is made of brick, on the outside anyway. :-) Keep "reeding". :-)
