I picked up an old Jean du Blay eflat on eBay five years ago. It came with a hard rubber barrel and bell. However the bell was smashed and in pieces. After a good soak in oil and an overhaul with leather pads it plays really well. A friend has borrowed it for a couple professional gigs. I paid $18.50 for it. A Leblanc Esprit barrel and bell fit and work fine.
I also got a really beat Rene Dumont Bb. Bob Bernardo graciously fixed it up gratis and I gave it to a friend's son. It played very respectable considering how beat up it looked. But maybe that was because of all that Bob did to it? Thanks again Bob!
